Reading
Alpha Reading
Average price:
$5 per 5k words
Alpha reading is a reading that's done while the writing is still ongoing. It focuses more on if the plot/premise is marketable, and any major flaws in the writing style.
If you've written the first few chapters of a novel and aren't sure if it's worth continuing, this is the service for you!
Beta Reading
Beta reading is a reading that's done when the novel or first draft is complete. It focuses more on overarching plots, finding inconsistencies, and seeing if there are any issues that would put off readers.
If you have a full manuscript and need someone to make sure everything makes sense and the book is good to go, this is the service for you!
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final step in polishing a manuscript for publishing. A proofreader will search the book for typos, homophones, formatting consistency, and the odd punctuation error.
If you've already sent your book to an editor and need a third set of eyes to make sure it's absolutely perfect, this is the service for you!
editing
Copy Editing
Copy editing covers tone, style, grammar, formatting, and everything else technical that makes a good book.
The "five C's" to copy editing, what we aim to do, is: make the text clear, correct, concise, comprehensible, and consistent. ...Unless you subscribe to the idea of "four C's", which are: clear, concise, compelling, and credible. Depending on who you ask, the C's might also include: coherent, complete, or check-the-facts. You get the idea.
If you need someone to go through your chapters and make them as easy-to-read as possible, this is the service for you!

"11/10 During the entirety of the beta reading process, Sadie hasn't just been a good beta reader, she's been THE BEST one.
the biggest reason why is that her communication is unmatched. She delivers the chapters as she reads them and she is completely willing to discuss them, joke around, ask questions, and share her expertise in a multitude of fields to better improve your book.
She's funny and sweet, and will be ready to accuse you of being a monster if you write anything too sad. I adore Sadie and everything she's helped me with, and I wish to remain friends with her long after our professional careers part ways."
- Felix Maples, author of Menthroni
"Sadie did a great job copy editing stories for my fantasy anthology, giving nuanced editing to a variety of stories coming to her with different levels of polish."
- Timeless Wind Publishing
"Sadie has been quick and pleasant to work with every time I requested their expertise. Great experience."
- Calcroissant, author of Undersea Reincarnation
How does it work?
For readings, ask for a quote based on your wordcount. Once you've paid, email me either a .docx (Word document) file or a link to a Google Doc, and I'll add comments to it.
For alpha reads usually I'll send it back all in one piece. For beta reads I'll send it back to you in two-chapter chunks. When I'm done I'll send a report on what I liked, any issues I found, and notes on anything specific you'd like me to focus on.
For beta reads longer than 150k words, I am willing to read through a "test chapter" of 2k words or less, just so we're both sure I'm a good fit for your story.
For editing, ask for a quote based on your wordcount. If my pricing is acceptable to you, send me a chapter or scene under 1k words for me to edit. That way we can both be sure I'm the editor for you.
If you like my style, pay and email me either a .docx file or a link to a Google Doc, and I'll add suggestions to it. I'll edit them in one- or two-chapter chunks and return them to you.
I will not edit the chapters directly unless you specifically tell me to. That way you can see exactly what I'm doing, and you can easily accept or reject any changes.
If you need an editor for an ongoing project, such as a webnovel, I'm more than happy to discuss payment plans based on wordcount. In that case I do prefer you have a backlog of at minimum two weeks, but as long as the chapters aren't published the moment you're done writing them I'm happy.
